VISA provides access via the Internet to a network of organisations around South Africa committed to a wide variety of voluntary work initiatives. Its purpose is to facilitate communication between individuals and/or groups wishing to volunteer and local community development projects.

The Barefoot University Foundation - Western Cape - SA Established for the purpose of providing basic life skills and leadership training to school leavers within rural community villages, small informal campuses are to be established by utilising existing community centre's on a daily basis to provide creative activities for the young, the old and all in between. Volunteer in a wide range of areas from computers to gardening.

MEC is an education and training project initiated by the local Mankosi Community together with TransCape, a non-profit organization operating in the rural Eastern Cape (see www.transcape.org )

Volunteers Wanted  

The Project: The Mdumbi Education Centre (MEC) is a rural community education initiative located in the Transkei on the Wild Coast . MEC is an education and training project initiated by the local Mankosi Community together with TransCape, a non-profit organization operating in the rural Eastern Cape (see www.transcape.org )

The Programmes: The Mdumbi Education Centre caters for all members of the Mankosi Community, so the programmes are varied, while responding to specific needs within the community. The Programmes of MEC include:

•  A Pre School for 32 children

•  An After School Programme for 120 local school-going children

•  Adult Education and Training (ABET and Business skills)

•  A Community Library

•  Outreach Programmes to neighbouring communities

The Place: MEC is located on the East Coast of South Africa, between Port Elizabeth and Durban . The Education Centre is situated on the grounds of Mdumbi Backpackers ( www.mdumbi.co.za ), which is one of the most beautiful locations in the world and has been voted one of the best beaches in the country. Incredibly rural and remote, Mdumbi is a paradise for the adventurous spirit who loves Nature and enjoys a cultural experience.
